TOM HARRISON / FORTE BASKETBALL

The street basketball scene in London is thriving. I wanted to capture a set of images which showed the personality, power,  movement and culture surrounding the sport. 

I collaborated with the team at Forte to cast 5 basketball models for the project, all of which had their own brilliant look and style. I wanted the set to feel as natural as possible, so encouraged the models to style themselves, and to play out a game as they would on any other day. 

I also decided to try and make the most of the graphic markings on the court, and shoot at a more unusual perspective- from the hoop itself. We bought a ladder which allowed me to get up high and shoot down on the players which made for some interesting images. I love shooting through different objects and textures, such as the hoop in this case, but also through the fence in some of the other shots. Sometimes creating these messy foregrounds can be a nice way of adding depth to a frame.
