NICK DAVID / KAMPONG PHLUK / ART DOC
These portraits were made during a wedding celebration in Kampong Phluk, a stilted fishing community on the floodplain of Tonlé Sap Lake in Cambodia’s Siem Reap Province. Photographed throughout the village, they capture people of all ages gathered with family, friends, and neighbours to celebrate the occasion.
Rather than documenting the wedding itself, the series focuses on the individuals who make up the community. Made in the streets, homes, and communal spaces of the village, the portraits capture brief encounters, expressions, and moments of connection as the celebrations unfolded.
Set within a distinct cultural setting, the images reflect familiar themes of family, community, and belonging, revealing the shared human experiences found in everyday moments of celebration.
