NATHAN JOYCE / ALPHAPETS
Nathan Joyce was back in his studio recently, this time testing out some playful new ideas in stop-motion. Always curious about experimenting with movement and character, he revisited an old personal project, Alphapets, which he first created a few years ago using model animals. The project was a chance to inject charm and wit into miniature figures giving them a new lease of life.
Alongside that, Nathan has also been animating a toy action figure, experimenting with snappy, personality-led movements that bring the model to life. The focus has been on how a subtle gesture or small shift can instantly give an object character, making the stop-motion feel less like a technical exercise and more like a performance.
