PAUL CRAIG / SUMMER SOLSTICE SWIM

It’s that time of year again, summer solstice, yikes! For those not aware of the spiritually significant day it marks the longest day of the year, this time falling on 21st June 2023. Get ready to say goodbye to them 10pm sunsets. Paul Craig headed to the beach to capture people enjoying this Pagen celebration, which traditionally people would light bonfires and dance all night on Midsummer's Eve.

‘With the summer solstice coming up I decided to take the opportunity to add to my wild swimming project.

I drove up the coast and crashed in a little shepherds hut (thanks air bnb!) in the yorkshire national park before getting up at 3am and driving the rest of journey to one of my favourite places Sandsend beach

I met up with the lovely swimming group  @whitby_wild_swimmers

As we waited for the sun to begin showing itself on the horizon a pod of dolphins passed us and one of them came in really close with led to lots of cheers  (see ladies expression in one of the earlier shots she was watching them)

My 1st ever solstice sunrise and It was a magical experience !

The camaraderie among the group was amazing and i drove home feeling totally inspired by there close bond and sense of community’ Paul Craig
