Portrait and lifestyle photographer Julian Love’s project ‘The Europeans’ has been published this month in the British Journal of Photography.
Speaking to BJP’s Eoin Murray, Julian describes how the Brexit vote a year and a half ago left him feeling that there was a need to ‘put a human face on the whole thing’. Instead of concentrating on the statistics and numbers of Brexit, Julian wanted to bring to light the 2.3 million citizens of other EU countries currently calling the UK home.
With these portraits, of which Julian now has over 60, he is showing the human side of Brexit, and the article in the British Journal of Photography explores why this is so important, as well as touching on how Julian approached taking these portraits to best convey the emotion behind them.
